This is a ‘painting’ course focused on teaching students to ask what are the opportunities for good design and stronger compositions in painting.
The studio course will offer individual focused prompts and critiques and be accompanied by a weekly series of slide lectures and demos by instructor Michael Sherman. The idea for this course is to inspire and convey that no matter what the material, scale, or matrix you are working with, the foundational ideas of good art are universal and can be strengthened even in your home studio.
Artist Michael Sherman will provide weekly prompts with directives on how to explore art and design in painting or work with students who bring their own. The prompts and references will focus our conversations around aspects of value, color, line, or shape and their relationships in painting.
Supply List
The ‘painting’ materials needed are adaptable and flexible. Students can come with as little as a pencil or charcoal and paper or a full set of paints (acrylic, oil, or watercolor welcome).
