Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this watercolor class:

In this class we will dive deeply into color. Mixing colors is one of the most important of making art and if you find yourself guilty of using paint straight from the tube, don’t worry it’s not a bad thing, but knowing how to mix will take your paintings to a whole new level. You will have full control of the colors on the page and will make colors that are one of a kind. Not to mention, you will save a lot of money, not needing to buy every color out there.

In this class you will learn:

  • The Basics of Color Theory
  • Understanding the Primaries, CMY, and Temperature
  • Make a Color Wheel Chart
  • How to Mix Any Color
  • Tone Down Colors
  • Mixing Brown, Gray, and Black
  • Make Harmonious Color Combinations
  • Make Your Own Inspiring Palettes

By the end of the class you will feel confident in working with colors and will be more inspired to paint. By mastering the basic techniques covered in this class, with time and practice you will start picking and mixing colors without thinking much about it.

Virtual Class FAQ

What will be included in my Virtual Class package?

One ticket includes an access link to your live, online class. The class will be delivered via web conferencing software and feature a live, professional instructor who will walk you through a lesson as described above. You will have the opportunity to ask questions as well as participate from home.

How many people is my purchase good for?

Each ticket is good for one "device" (i.e. one computer, phone, tablet, etc. you'll be logging in from). This ensures we don't get more people in the class than the instructor can handle. Though we understand some people live together and will be working/learning together, the intent is that each class still allows for the same attention to attendees as if students purchased separately. Please be respectful of this!

Will I need anything from home to use in the class?

You will need a reliable Internet connection as well as a computer or device with which you can access your virtual class. We recommend you arrive to class 5-10 minutes early to ensure you're able to set up your device and connection. Additionally, if the class is more than just a lecture you will likely want any materials listed in the course description as "Materials Needed to Participate Fully", though you're welcome to purchase a seat and sit in and just watch.

Am I able to ask questions or interact with the class?

Yes, you'll both be able to ask questions using the chat function in the video hosting software as well as at certain intervals during the class via voice/audio. If the class winds up being on the smaller side, more spontaneous interaction/questions will be encouraged.

Do I have to show my video or speak during class?

While we recommend you do show your video and speak when encouraged to by the instructor, video and audio participation are never mandatory. We find classes have more fun experiences when people are engaging with one another, but understand not everyone will want to do so and that's ok!

Remote Learning

This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.

Upon registration, the instructor will send along additional information about how to log-on and participate in the class.

Refund Policy

Students may cancel any time 72 hours or more before the class to receive a refund or credit.

In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.

Lots of good information. Important for those who want to try their hands at painting outside of class. More theory than creativity. Don’t expect a pretty picture at the end of this class, but you will come away with valuable tools to use.

Jade was very conversational, very open for questions and different ways of explaining things that folks were struggling with. I've read some color books and taken a couple other "courses" but this was the best.

I wish instructor had utilized and incorporated ALL the materials recommended. Total cost of recommended course materials was $61.88. Watercolor Paper Pad was not used. Only one brush was used out of pkg of 6. The purpose for the different sized brushes was not discussed. Jade was enthusiastic and clearly enjoys and is knowledgeable about her craft, however, as beginner I mentally disconnected after the first hour and wondered why purchased some purchased materials were unaddressed.

I thoroughly enjoyed this class with Jade. Her excitement on the topic is contagious and I only wish the class was a little longer. She's clear in explaining the terminology, the ways to mix colors and addresses any question you may have. Plus you get to play with it making pretty colors yourself!

Love the class as an introductory class on colors. May be best if it was split into two sessions with homework for us to share our own mixing and doing show and tell afterwards. Lots of information and practice one needs with color mixing. Maybe also time in between. Maybe more like an advance color mixing class, provided we do the homework and read the recommended books? It was fun!!

It’s obvious by Jades’s enthusiasm that she loves watercolor and she wants others to enjoy painting and be more knowledgeable when creating a palette for our compositions. Her tone, pacing, and the structure of the class kept me engaged. Questions were welcomed. As a result, my goal to develop an understanding of color theory was met. More work to be done, of course, as I’m a novice. Resources were provided so I can continue independently and if needed contact Jade. Thank you Jade.
