What you'll learn in this sculpture class:

This course provides an opportunity for students’ personal invention and exploration in developing independent projects inspired by the subject of nature.

Students will research and provide their own reference material as well as create a short project proposal and outline. Throughout this course, traditional ceramic sculpture techniques for stoneware clays will be used to improve competency thinking and working three dimensionally, while encouraging craftsmanship and conceptual skills in both beginning and advanced students.

In addition, the class will visit the American Museum of Natural History to gather reference, draw, and study anatomical forms in the dioramas, prehistoric mammal halls, or dinosaur halls.  The course concludes by experimenting with various under glazes and finishing techniques as each project is completed and kiln fired.

Q&A

Q: Can I make up a class if I miss one?
A: No, there are no makeup classes. Because art is taught with demonstrations and demonstrations are time consuming, if one person misses the class each week, the instructor would spend the first part of each class repeating the demonstration from last week before moving on to the next lesson, which isn't fair to the students who attended. That said, most of our classes are taught atelier style. If there is a demonstration during the particular session, after the demonstration, the instructor goes to each student to work with them on a one-on-one basis. During this time, the instructor can work with you if you missed the previous week to talk and explain what to do.

Q: Are materials provided and included in the cost of the class?
A: No, required materials include:
  • A basic pottery tool kit
  • A sketchbook of any size preferred
  • Reference material for projects

Refund Policy
100% refund will be issued up to seven days after the first class. After this, no refund will be issued.

MAKE-UP POLICY
Unfortunately, we do not offer makeup classes. The instructor can tell them what they missed. Most of our classes are taught atelier style. If there is a demonstration during the particular session, after the demonstration the instructor goes to each student to work with them on a one-to-one basis. During this time the instructor can work with the student who missed the previous week, talk with them and explain what to do.
