Description

What you'll learn in this furniture class:

In this one day class builds on the foundation of the mortise and tenon. We will dive into its more involved variations. Namely wedged, tusked, fox with focus on the square pegged. The day will be filled with demonstrations, discussion of proportions, subtleties and applications while leaving ample time for hands-on practice!

You will gain a deep understanding of this fundamental joint.

Prerequisites needed for this class:

Sharpening with Japanese Waterstone Japanese Joinery – Mortises & Tenons or, contact the school to confirm if your mortise and tenon experience is suitable to participate.

Recommended:
  • Japanese Block Plane and Chisel
  • Finish Planing
  • Japanese Saws: Getting a Grip
Are materials provided and included in cost of the class? No.
A payment of $20 is required as materials fee at time of class.

Materials you will need to bring to class:
  • 210mm ryoba saw or 24mm fine ryoba saw 
  • 6mm(1/4”) chisel
    12mm(1/2″) chisel 
  • hammer, square, pencil, eraser. 
Optional: 
  • Dozuki saw 
  • 12mm paring chisel 
  • Marking gauge 
  • A slightly wider chisel is also handy say 18, 21 or 24mm 
  • Sashigane (Japanese square) 
Students can purchase tools and materials at the school as Mokuchi is a Japanese tool retailer and can provide guidance on obtaining tools and a student discount.

Refund Policy

No refunds for no shows.

  • For cancellations more than 16 business days before class date, student can be refunded payment amount minus 13% processing fee OR receive full payment amount as credit toward another class.
  • For cancellations 16 to 11 business days before class date, student can receive payment amount as credit toward another class.
  • No refunds or credit available for cancellations less than 11 business days before class.

In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
