What you'll learn in this coffee class:

For all those interested in barista skills or knowing what it takes to produce your latte each morning, our One-Day Barista Workshop is the class for you! Students will cover all topics related to operating an espresso machine and making espresso-based drinks, including:

  • Dialing in a grinder
  • Pulling a shot of espresso
  • Steaming milk
  • Pouring latte art
  • Cleaning and maintaining equipment

The class will begin with an overview of espresso extraction, exploring the factors and variables that affect flavor. Students will learn the proper technique to pull a shot, dial in espresso, and produce a delicious, balanced shot. Once we’ve found that ideal shot, the class will cover the science of steaming milk, discussing how milk transforms into a smooth, velvety latte texture, and how to pour latte art. The class culminates in learning how to put all of the skills together with a focus on learning how to construct drinks from beginning to end!

The One-Day Barista Workshop is a six-hour class with a one-hour lunch break. All materials are included and students are welcome to take photos and write down notes throughout the class. After the class, students will be able to purchase coffee and equipment from our Pro Shop at a 10% discount. No experience necessary.

Great class, great teachers, very interactive and knowledgeable. I was so tired from intense mon-fri work but the class was so well delivered. Thank you so much!

I thought the class was fun and beneficial for the beginners. The mentors Michael and Nich were helpful and had performed detailed demonstrations throughout the class. We gained fundamental knowledge and technique about brewing a perfect cup of espresso, steaming milk in a correct manner and create latte art which i thought is the most interesting part of the class. At the end, looks like we need more continuous practice to make a perfect cup of coffee. Thanks to Joe Coffee Company

It was very informational and hands-on. The most of the students were coffee enthusiasts were like me. The only feedback I have is that he teachers were able to deliver what they have learned within the realm of the company, but sometime I felt that they lacked depth in their knowledge, and was not able to address some of the questions the students have. Especially, when it came to science of it, it would be more valuable to explain the concepts in better scientific terminology than saying "sweet stuff", "bitter stuff".

The instructors were informative and patient with the participants. I think the class could of been easily covered in 4 hours not the 6 hours with a lunch break and more reasonably price of $150 instead of $250 for class/content. The classroom environment was in the back of coffee shop which was not the ideal spot with employees walking through and being able to hear grinding machines being used by employees up front for their customers. The equipment demonstrated on was spectacular.

I'm giving it 3 stars because of the 2 instructors. They were very friendly, informative, and definitely knew their stuff. However, the class itself was not very broad on the subject and the material learned was very specific to Joe's coffee shop- meaning, as coffee "purists", they only taught us how to make a latte and a cappuccino. The class itself was only a little hands on, the highlight being a short segment on how to make coffee "art"- which not one of the 8 people in the class were able to execute. The course description is a bit misleading. Three stars is a "gift" because the class definitely wasn't worth the $500.00 A class like that should have only been around $150.00 I would not recommend, nor do it again for the price listed.
