What you'll learn in this health class:

Full Course Title: Self Care for Women: Mindful Cycles, Healthy Bodies, Clean Beauty

In this comprehensive class, herbalist, food entrepreneur, birth and postpartum doula and mom Laena McCarthy, will discuss healing traditions and practices to boost the female body's natural resilience while protecting from stress and damage, from the inside and out.

The class will begin with an overview of what healthy self-care rituals look like, why taking care of your body is important, and how to heal and take care of your skin, body and cycles using simple herbs and ingredients from your pantry.

We’ll cover how a plant-based diet can be used for both physical and emotional health, how to choose herbs for cooking, teas and tonics, and how to work with the body's own natural cycles and rhythm to restore balance. We will discuss finding the right blend for your body: from your early 20’s to menopause.

The last 30 minutes of class, we’ll learn a simple exercise set, Laena's "daily 15 mend me minutes" of self-massage, stretching and breathing that can work wonders for maintaining physical and mental health, and prevent damage from stress and exhaustion.

Participants will learn about resources for herbs, oils and ingredients, and will take home a guide Laena's created with DIY herbal care, recipes for a healthy plant-based diet, and mindfulness exercises covered in the class, as well as a greater understanding of how to enhance their daily self care rituals, empowering them to take their physical, emotional and reproductive health into their own hands.

Refund Policy

Note: This provider has a temporary cancellation policy for COVID-19 related cancellations which is as follows:

I'm currently offering credits for any cancellations made seven days or fewer to a class starting. I can't afford to do cash refunds right now, but credits are fine if the spot is canceled any time before the start date (even if less than 72 hours). Spots that are canceled more than seven days before the class starts are eligible for cash refunds.

 ----

Original cancellation policy (non-COVID-19):

If you're looking for a refund or class credit, you need to back out of the class a full week before it starts. (No exceptions!) We know it's draconian, but since we aren't charging an arm and a leg and have to buy all our materials in advance, it's kinda hard to deal with last-minute bailings.

We also can't transfer registrations to a future session of the class. Sorry!

Instead of dropping out if you have a schedule conflict, a better idea is to ask around and see if any of your friends want the spot. We can't give you a refund less than a week out, even if there's a wait list for the class.

Regarding bad weather, we generally only cancel classes if the subway system stops running. If traveling during snowstorms might be an issue for you, please take this into account before registering for a class.

This course provided a lot of helpful information that I needed to reset my self-care habits. There was plenty of room for questions, which is where a lot of the valuable knowledge came out. I wish that the class was more interactive and hands on, however, I walked away with enough actionable information.
