Comedy music is in. The NYTimes thinks so, audiences think so, and hopefully you do too. In this class, we’ll teach you how to find your unique musical and comedic voice: simultaneously. You will take what makes you tick and turn it into a musical act via learning songwriting techniques —and how they naturally correspond with finding a strong comedic game to each song.
We’ll learn how to use your own point of view and life experiences to cover existing songs and refresh them into original cabaret pieces with new lyrics. And, we’ll learn how to match subject matter to musical genre, taking a simple comedic observation to the next level. Most of all, we’ll find the ways in which music and comedy work together - for your voice.
Prerequisite:
You must be comfortable singing in this class - but all levels of vocal experience and prior training are welcome. If you play an instrument, have it available but if not don't worry about it! We'll be going over ways to accompany yourself with or without the ability to play your own live accompaniment.
Let us know in the sign-up form if you have familiarity with cutting/sourcing an appropriate backing track to perform to. Every class will include solo musical performance and workshopping of pieces.
Class payments are non-refundable.
In the event you have to drop a class before it begins and give us at least 8 business days notice, we can credit your tuition toward a future class.
In the event a class fails to meet a minimum number of sign-ups (6 enrollments), students will be notified by email and given the option to transfer into another class, keep a class credit on the books, or offered a full refund - whichever is preferable to the student.
In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
