In 1993, two of the founding members, began teaching CPA review for Conviser-Duffy, at the time the largest bar review course in the US. In 1998, Conviser was acquired by Becker, and the two professors were retained.
Bothered by the high cost and the limited options for CPA review in New York City and Park Avenue Review was formed.
All of Park Avenue's original members, Professors Liveson, Rosa and Schleifer, are full-time faculty in the CUNY system. Liveson, an attorney, has been at Hunter College over 27 years, and was recently recognized by Princeton Review as one of the top 300 professors at US colleges. Schleifer, also a Hunter faculty member, serves as the academic advisor for both the accounting and economics programs, as he has for the past 14 of his 27 years at the school. Rosa, a full-time member of the faculty at Queensborough Community College for over 20 years, is the co-author of two accounting text books and a former instructor for in-house training at the IRS.
Park Avenue Review's newest partners have been teaching at Hunter and at Park Avenue for some time. Professor Maffia, a partner in a top 200 (USA) CPA firm, has taught both undergraduate and graduate level auditing for several years. Professor Mason, a faculty member at DePaul University, has taught at Hunter and Brooklyn Colleges, as well as Rutgers University where she completed her PhD in accounting. Her primary teaching focus is intermediate and advanced financial accounting.
