Nathan Catlin

Teaches at Trestle Workshops

Nathan Catlin is the Master Printer at The Leroy Neiman Center for Print Studies as Columbia University. He received his MFA from Columbia in 2012 and his BFA in Printmaking from SFAI in 2007. He has been an adjunct professor in printmaking at Columbia since 2012. His work has been show nationally in NYC, LA, Boston, and others as well as internationally in Beijing and Berlin. He is originally from California but moved to New York for the weather.

I really enjoyed this class. It was very easy going and Nathan was very personable and helpful. The class size was small so there was a lot of personal attention and assistance if needed. If there are more in depth classes, I would be very interested in signing up!

You’re paying more so for the space and time to create your masterpiece. Not much teaching here. Come in with a printed picture/outline or else if you don’t know how to really draw, it’ll be tough and you’ll end up making something that won’t be really useful. Instructor was nice and thoughtful though.

Excellent class. Nathan the instructor was prompt and came fully prepared with materials and visual examples. He is knowledgeable and obviously experienced at conveying information clearly and in different ways. He addressed safety issues as well as encouraging individual aesthetic expression. Nathan was there to coach each of us as we reached the next step of the process, i.e., putting a design on the block, cutting, inking and printing. The 3-hour course was just the right amount of time to produce one piece, soup to nuts. Three students was a great class size. The classroom was fine -- well-lit, and wi-fi'd.
