Lawrese Brown is an Engager at The Engaging Educator. She is the founder of Brown Coaching and Consulting, LLC; an organization that creates learning partnerships with organizations, colleges and community groups to promote confidence, resiliency and achievement. Through her company, she’s facilitated college readiness workshops for students at the Boys and Girls Club, Step Up, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Essex County College and Hostos Community College.

As a Masters student at NYU studying Educational Leadership, Advocacy and Politics, her areas of concentration are education policy, the social factors impacting public education systems, and non-profit management. Lawrese is also an early career columnist for Idealist Careers and like her birthday twin Oprah Winfrey, she aspires to use media to educate and inspire others across the globe.

I thought it was a great class and learned a lot of tips and also about how I am personally speaking and presenting. I felt the class was a little large and could have been more personable in a smaller setting. Additionally we did not get to the last activity of actually presenting on our own to the Insturctor which I thought I could have benefited from.

This is set at a very basic level, for someone who has zero idea about how to structure a story or present themselves. For that sort of person it's well worthwhile, particularly because Olive, the instructor, is both passionate about the subject and very good at working with and instructing people. I certainly got some take-aways from the course and I enjoyed the evening but if you have any background in public speaking or telling stories this is not the course for you. For the complete tyro, who wants a start on how to stand in front of a group and talk, absolutely go and enjoy the night.
