You will need a reliable Internet connection as well as a computer or device with which you can access your virtual class. We recommend you arrive to class 5-10 minutes early to ensure you're able to set up your device and connection.

What you'll learn in this landscape design class:

The Chicago Botanic Garden’s online garden design class is a virtual experience you can take anywhere! 

Learn the basics of front yard landscape design by demonstrating how proper planting design can change the way you use and view your property. Your design should respond to your home’s architecture and be aesthetically pleasing. Topics include proper plant types and spacing, focusing and screening views, and creating curb appeal.

This class will be taught online via Zoom. All registrations must be submitted online two days before your class starts. Registered students will receive login instructions one day in advance.


Remote Learning

This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.

Upon registration, the instructor will send along additional information about how to log-on and participate in the class.

Refund Policy

Refund requests must be submitted to [email protected] 24 hours prior to the program’s start date and time. The registration fee will be refunded less a 10 percent processing charge. A refund is issued in the form of a credit on file (to be used for future programs).

No refunds for cooking classes or supply-heavy horticulture and art classes will be made within 48 hours prior to the class date and time.

Fees are nonrefundable and nontransferable on and after the program’s start date. We cannot refund fees requested on or after the start date of a program or for sessions missed due to student illness or other personal situations.


Registration fees for courses grouped and priced as a series will be considered one program and subject to all of the above guidelines. A refund request must be received prior to the start date of the series' first class session and will subsequently cancel your registration in every session of the series. If you choose to re-register for other sessions in the series, the special discount does not apply.
