Journey to Argentina for an evening dedicated to mastering empanadas, the beloved flaky pastry pockets filled with savory or sweet ingredients. These traditional pastries, made with dough and filled with meat, seafood, cheese, vegetables, or fruit, feature numerous regional variations across Latin America. Argentine immigrants received this recipe from early Spanish colonizers during the 16th century, and its evolution in Argentina created a unique culinary tradition. In this class, you'll learn directly from an Argentine chef what makes this dish distinctly special in his homeland.
During this engaging, hands-on class, you'll receive step-by-step guidance in preparing authentic empanadas from scratch using traditional Argentine-style fillings. You'll master the dough-making process and then fill your pastries with the chef's signature recipe of seasoned ground beef, as well as a flavorful Mushroom, Kale, and Smashed Potato filling. The chef will demonstrate the proper techniques for filling your empanada disks before folding and sealing the edges to achieve a flaky, golden finish through baking.
The most rewarding part of the class involves sitting down to savor your delicious homemade meal alongside fellow classmates. You'll leave with practical skills to recreate this special dish and share it with friends and family.
