COVID UPDATE: In the interest of health and safety, this class will be offered using an online platform. Links to join the class will be sent to all registered students in advance of class start time.
“What would happen if…?” This question lies at the heart of creativity, experimentation, and discovery. To engage with the creative process you have to be willing to get curious, explore, show up for the work and take risks. Without creative risk and failure we often find ourselves standing still. If you feel like you need some new ways to shake up your shooting then this class is for you!
This class will provide students with a safe space to try a series of wacky, strange, and otherwise unconventional exercises each week akin to a photographic obstacle course. We’ll test the power of repetition, boundaries, and to embrace absurdity so you can start to take your work further by taking yourself a little less seriously.
Who should take this class?
This course is ideal for students who feel like they have hit a creative roadblock, want to get creatively un-stuck or anyone struggling with their own creative process.
Things to prepare
Just your digital camera, including DSLR, mirrorless, micro 4/3 systems. If your camera has the option for manual control of aperture, shutter speed and ISO (pretty much all cameras these days) it should be suitable for this class. Make sure you're all charged up and have a bit of space to move around. A high-speed internet connection running Zoom on a laptop or desktop computer is recommended.
Prerequisites
High-level camera skills are not necessary. Basic camera skill for controlling exposure and focus is highly recommended. It’s helpful to have a working knowledge of your computer’s operation, like selecting files, copy and pasting, and a familiarity with how files are stored in your computer and where to find things.
Please note this class is scheduled for online attendance. Students will receive their link to join the class 24 hours before the start time.
