Class Description

Description

Woodworking has historically been a hobby requiring a direct connection to someone with substantial knowledge and experience in workshop techniques and practices.

Are you interested in exploring woodworking but unable to casually try it out because you lack access to tools and proper workshop space, without committing to a lengthy woodworking apprenticeship? We are here to be your woodworking resource and partner. This hands-on workshop will equip you with the essential skills needed to design and construct the furniture pieces you have always dreamed about creating.

You will begin this workshop with several pieces of oak wood. You will then carefully cut and shape the oak into all the individual components of your table, utilizing a mitre saw, a router table, a table saw, and a belt sander for precise finishing. Have you never operated any of these tools before? No problem at all. Each workshop includes a knowledgeable guide who is there to assist and support you throughout the entire process.

After becoming comfortable with the tools, you will ensure that every part fits together with precision before assembling your completed project into your finished masterpiece.

What You'll Learn:

  • How to properly cut and shape oak wood using professional woodworking tools
  • Techniques for creating and using half-lap joints to construct a side table
  • Basic fitting, assembly, and finishing skills for woodworking projects
  • Safety practices and efficiency tips while operating woodworking tools

Supplies and Materials:

  • All necessary tools will be provided for the entire duration of the class
  • All materials, including oak wood, will be provided for your project

Additional Notes:

  • You will be creating a small oak side table, approximately 15 inches in height with a 9 inch square top surface
  • This class is perfect for beginners with little or no woodworking experience, but it also includes advanced elements to challenge and engage people of all skill levels. The total workshop time is approximately 4 hours, give or take thirty minutes.
  • An expert instructor will guide and support you throughout the entire workshop
  • All tools and oak materials are included in your class fee

  • Craft a Side Table (Introduction to Woodworking and Furniture Making)

Great entry level workshop with a nice variety of tool instruction! I was admittedly looking for something bigger (the name was a little misleading to me) but the skills can be applied elsewhere. Friendly instructors and cool vibe!

  • Craft a Side Table (Introduction to Woodworking and Furniture Making)

I took the class with three others, so not a large class which made it easier to do the build in a relaxed fashion. Will, the instructor, was great at walking us through the build and providing information about the various tools, and also how additional safety guards had been installed to make it safer for those new at woodworking. We got to watch a bit of Japanese woodworking and share a beer as well!
  • Craft a Side Table (Introduction to Woodworking and Furniture Making)

Really cool hobby class. Great intro into woodworking basics. We learned how to do a stool and used a miter saw and a router in class, and put together a table using joinery (I think that's the proper term). Instructor was awesome - very personable and even stayed late when we needed more time. Close to the subway, really neat little space and it was a great way to spend a Friday night.

The instructor David Sokoler was fantastic. He was funny and personable. He was also knowledgeable and made himself available to us as a resource for any questions we had about woodworking in general or our personal projects. The class was cute and served as a great introduction to power tools and was accessible even without prior experience.
