Description

This class focuses on learning and improving natural hair care, braiding and twisting skills, sanitization and professionalism and learning healthier ways of caring for you and your family's hair and scalp.

In this hands-on class, learn:

About the hair’s structure, textures and types, and the basics of natural hair care that will help strengthen, preserve and restore hair and scalp.
About the proper application of conditioners, moisturizers and roller/rod setting hair for either personal or professional enrichment.
To create and design braids, twists, flat twists, Bantu knots, cultivating locs, silky and yarn Locs.
Students will engage in discussions and demonstrations on natural handmade formulas, proper shampooing, scientific-brushing & scalp manipulation for hair growth stimulation.
Learn proper trimming, and hair detangling methods for all hair textures - curly, coarse, kinky and mixed textures, careful transitioning to wearing hair natural, nutrition, draping, sanitizing and sterilization of implements, communicable diseases, disorders of the scalp, and rules affecting hair braiding.

Course Requirements:

Students are to provide a mannequin with natural kinky human hair and stand. (Available at Long Island Beauty Supply Store or buy at a beauty supply store of your choice)
A $45 supply kit will be available for purchase on the first day of class from the instructor.

Refund Policy

All applications for refunds must be made in writing.

Registration fees are non-refundable unless the school has canceled a course.

Refunds are calculated from the date we receive your written request.

6 business days before the first class meeting, the refund is 95% of tuition.
Before the second class meeting the refund is 75% of tuition.
Thereafter, no refunds will be granted for any reason.

Registration, application and material fees are non-refundable. There are no refunds on one-day or two-day courses once they have begun. Non-attendance of classes does not exclude the student from the rules of this policy.

Overall, I greatly appreciated this course. To learn about the history of our and to be able to be hands on with our mannequins. What I do wish for was more one on one time with the instructor, so I could have fully master the braiding technique. I also believe that environment plays a part in learning. The classroom was way too cold and the chairs were really small, so it took away from the concentrating fully on hair. I would still recommend because it was a valuable lesson taught and this is a great investment towards the person braiding! The $25 hair kit, you can definetly get at the dollar store for around $10 bucks or less!

The teacher is not that great in conveying her art to the students. She knows her stuff but can’t teach it well. I came away disappointed. I was going to enroll in course 2 when I first started the class but now have changed my mind. In addition, she always came to class late (at least 30 minutes). I felt like I was being ripped off because she still ended class at its regular time. I wish there was more classes out there that could teach you how to braid correctly. Thumbs down on the class. The only positive aspects of the class were the students. We were able to bond together and teach each other whenever we were confused.

I mastered the skill of braiding and I can now braid my daughter's hair. The class was very helpful but not long enough. Mores time is needed to master the skill and additional skills as well!
