Loom Weaving: Woven Wall Hangings

Join this workshop to learn the basics of weaving on a frame loom and make a gorgeous modern wall hanging.

Woven wall hangings are everything this year–and with our awesome weaving workshop, you can learn to make your own.

In this workshop taught by Brooklyn-based designer, Sara Berks, founder of MINNA, you’ll learn the basics of weaving on a frame loom. Design and create your own modern, abstract, geometric, colorful, fringed, organic, anything-you-want amazing weavings.

You’ll learn the 411 of warping and basic stitches, plus how to combine colors and create texture through use of various yarns and ropes, fringe, and more. During class time, you’ll learn everything you need to know to plan, set up and begin your piece, and you’ll have time for some leisurely weaving with help from the instructor, while enjoying Ovenly treats.

It takes a little time to finish a woven piece (about the same amount of time as it takes to knit a scarf), so you won’t finish your piece in class, but you’ll learn everything you need to know to be on your way. 

Are materials provided and included in cost of the class? Yes.
Registration includes a 12″ x 16″ loom handcrafted of solid maple by an indie woodworker in upstate New York . Also includes a variety of yarns (in yummy textures and colors), as well as Ovenly snacks and tea.

If you would like to bring a little of your own yarn, especially if you have colors you know you want to use in your weaving, go for it. 

Bulky yarns work best for this project. We will provide enough yarn for everyone, but if you have anything special you want to incorporate, feel free to bring it along.

The loom is yours to keep to finish your piece and use again. You’ll leave with enough yarn to complete your masterpiece.
