What you'll learn in this mixology class:

This class covers the Classic Margarita as well as its Skinny Sister (low sugar/glycemic options, very delicious), Decadent Daddy ( A sweet deluxe Godfather of all margaritas with a sugared rim) and a The NoBooze Baby (a nonalcoholic version of the margarita, tasty and fun for the person who chooses not to drink alcohol).

The class covers the history, potency and manufacture of tequila and mezcal, while we mix up margaritas and you judge which kind you most enjoy. Feel free to create only one or two and then sip and take notes for the other two. Or make em' all. The instructor is a master mixologist who loves to answer any and all questions, and to get creative in her techniques and recipes, even as she honors the classics.

So make some guacamole and salsa or queso dip, strike up a mariachi band and join this Cinco de Mayo Fiesta, Margarita Mayhem. You'll learn a lot and have a a whole lot of South of the Border fun.

Materials needed if you want to follow along (we recommend you just get ingredients for 2 cocktails though you're welcome to do them all):

  • Tequila (Instructor's suggestions: Casamigos Anejo if you like a strong tequila flavor, Patron Silver if you prefer a lighter tequila flavor)
  • Optional: Mezcal (Yola Joven is a good one) only if you're curious. If you already have a bottle of mezcal, we'll go with that. Be prepared to describe the mezcal (savory, flowery, smoky) so the instructor may provide you with an appropriate recipe..
  • Triple Sec: Mr.Boston or comparable inexpensive "rail" brand highly suggested,
  • Cointreau if you like sweeter (not a necessary purchase, the cheaper is better- explanation to follow!)
  • Lime Juice (Santa Cruz makes a good one, or squeeze you own limes. Have eight limes for 2 people)
  • Salt: Kosher, Pink Himalayan, Sea Salt (any or all)
  • Grand Marnier-only if you want to make the  Decadent Daddy. If you have any sweet brandy or cognac or chambord in the house, you can substitute that. You only need few ounces.
  • Small bottle of Orange or Mango Juice for the non-alcoholic mocktail.
  • Small bottle of Seltzer-if you like bubbles in your mocktail
  • Small bottle of Agave Syrup- for low glycemic, preferred. Could substitute Stevia, liquid or powder.
  • Cocktail Shaker
  • Jigger (if you don't have one I can show you how to do it with TBSPs
  • Ice
  • long spoon

Virtual Class FAQ

What will be included in my Virtual Class package?

One ticket includes an access link to your live, online class. The class will be delivered via web conferencing software and feature a live, professional instructor who will walk you through a lesson as described above. You will have the opportunity to ask questions as well as participate from home.

How many people is my purchase good for?

Each ticket is good for one "device" (i.e. one computer, phone, tablet, etc. you'll be logging in from). This ensures we don't get more people in the class than the instructor can handle. Though we understand some people live together and will be working/learning together, the intent is that each class still allows for the same attention to attendees as if students purchased separately. Please be respectful of this!

Will I need anything from home to use in the class?

You will need a reliable Internet connection as well as a computer or device with which you can access your virtual class. We recommend you arrive to class 5-10 minutes early to ensure you're able to set up your device and connection. Additionally, if the class is more than just a lecture you will likely want any materials listed in the course description as "Materials Needed to Participate Fully", though you're welcome to purchase a seat and sit in and just watch.

Am I able to ask questions or interact with the class?

Yes, you'll both be able to ask questions using the chat function in the video hosting software as well as at certain intervals during the class via voice/audio. If the class winds up being on the smaller side, more spontaneous interaction/questions will be encouraged.

Do I have to show my video or speak during class?

While we recommend you do show your video and speak when encouraged to by the instructor, video and audio participation are never mandatory. We find classes have more fun experiences when people are engaging with one another, but understand not everyone will want to do so and that's ok!
