After eighteen years of teaching wine education in New York City, the instructor moved to California to cultivate a vineyard, produce wine, and reconnect with hands-on agricultural work. Now returning to teaching, the instructor is genuinely excited to share this passion with students and welcomes both returning and new participants to experience what makes these classes special and distinctive.
Wine innovations continue to emerge across all major wine-producing regions, including France, Italy, the United States, and beyond. While excellent selections could be curated from any of these regions, this particular class on May 9 will feature an exceptionally compelling and delicious lineup of wines chosen for their exceptional quality and character.
Spain represents a focus with previously poured selections from renowned regions, including the Canary Islands, Sierra de Gredos, and Bierzo. The instructor continues to discover countless emerging producers who are crafting distinctive wines using local and indigenous grape varieties. Additional Spanish wines on the agenda may include selections from the Ribeiro, Ribeira Sacra, or Monterrei regions, each offering unique expressions of Spanish winemaking tradition.
Portugal will also be explored, visiting both well-established locales such as the Douro, the Dão, and possibly Bairrada, while focusing on skilled vignerons creating the most intriguing wines from native grapes and crafted with genuine passion. The journey may even venture beyond the mainland to the Azores islands, a land of volcanic terrain that produces distinctive and memorable wines you will not soon forget.
The class will include 8 to 10 wines carefully selected for their quality and interest. Complementary pairings of cheese, breads, and charcuterie will be provided in generous portions. The instructor looks forward to welcoming you and greatly appreciates your interest in attending this wine tasting event.
