What you'll learn in this asl class:

The course will develop story telling skills using classifiers, additional vocabulary, more complex ideas, and visual descriptions. We will also reinforce fingerspelling skills; counthigher than before using numbers, and we will practice our receptive skills. Much of this class will be held in ASL, especially as the weeks go by so please be mindful that you will have to use some context clues to extract the full meaning of some concepts.

During the first class, we will spend time reviewing skills learned in our level 1 class.
We will delve into what makes ASL stories and poetry so rich including how to “make a rhyme” in ASL, how to make your stories have more 3-D elements and make your stories more relevant to you!

Prerequisite:
The second level of American Sign Language is designed for students who have either participated in level 1 here at The Brainery or have prior experience using ASL.

Note: If you would like to sign up and have not taken our first level course,we may ask you to participate in a short video screening process to ensure a smooth transition into the class!

Refund Policy

Note: This provider has a temporary cancellation policy for COVID-19 related cancellations which is as follows:

I'm currently offering credits for any cancellations made seven days or fewer to a class starting. I can't afford to do cash refunds right now, but credits are fine if the spot is canceled any time before the start date (even if less than 72 hours). Spots that are canceled more than seven days before the class starts are eligible for cash refunds.

 ----

Original cancellation policy (non-COVID-19):

If you're looking for a refund or class credit, you need to back out of the class a full week before it starts. (No exceptions!) We know it's draconian, but since we aren't charging an arm and a leg and have to buy all our materials in advance, it's kinda hard to deal with last-minute bailings.

We also can't transfer registrations to a future session of the class. Sorry!

Instead of dropping out if you have a schedule conflict, a better idea is to ask around and see if any of your friends want the spot. We can't give you a refund less than a week out, even if there's a wait list for the class.

Regarding bad weather, we generally only cancel classes if the subway system stops running. If traveling during snowstorms might be an issue for you, please take this into account before registering for a class.

American Sign Language - Level 2

The teacher was great. But I thought the description of the class was not very clear that this was more of a storytelling class. I would have taken a regular level 2 course. I felt that I needed more vocabulary and slightly more instruction on grammar and how to properly describe something. I would take a class through coursehorse again.
