Staten Island MakerSpace was founded in 2013 by sculptors, DB Lampman and Scott Van Campen.  DB works in mixed mediums, and has a background in dance, performance art, and arts administration. Scott is a metalworker and in addition to making sculpture, has operated his architectural metalworking business New York Custom Fabricators in the space at 450 Front Street for the last ten years.

We are a non-profit, community co-working space for makers, builders, tinkerers, hardware developers, hobbyists, artists, entrepreneurs, and anyone with a curious mind who wants to make something. We offer memberships to individuals and groups to use the tools and equipment in our 6000 sq ft facility. We also offer workshops and other resources to make your ideas come to life.

Our goal is to create a community of makers and foster an environment of entrepreneurial spirit and invention, by providing equipment and space to a membership that includes skilled craftspeople as well as weekend hobbyists.

Our members are artists, craftspeople, engineers, makers, creators, and thinkers that work together to collect tools and resources for our membership who might not otherwise afford, store, or use them individually. We use these resources to encourage our members to develop and start small businesses in our community and to encourage collaboration and experimentation across disciplines.

Very basic introduction to 3d printing for those who have no prior knowledge or experience. Ample resource material is provided via internet for at home reading, and a basic 3d modeling program is demonstrated with hands on use by the class. I was disappointed, however, that a large hands on portion of the class didn't quite work out... the 3d printer provided for demonstration purposes was never able to work... and that was the main point for my being there.

Informative and fun class with a small group and knowledgable teacher. A great artists and artisan space with multiple uses. Look forward to more classes at Makerspace. If you take SIR from the south of Staten Island, sit in back of the train and exit is right there, space is short 2 blocks away. Easy access.

Valentines Day Couples Welding

This class was incredible and the instructors were attentive and extremely informative. They taught us plasma cutting and MIG welding (including the physics behind how the tools work) and each couple got to create their own design. My husband and I went for something simple since we were complete newbies and the instructors were beside us every step of the way. Other couples had a little bit more experience and they gave them more free range to use the tools. An amazing experience and would highly recommend!

Great class in a great space! Our teacher Allison was very knowledgeable. She covered all the basics and answered questions the students had about their individual projects. It was a good beginner class. I would highly recommend it.

Incredible woodworking workshop with Allison who gave me TLC as I progressed through the stages of learning to use the table saw, router, chop shaw and to assemble my "masterpiece." Am looking forward to the next phase.

I had a slight reservation signing up for this class thinking I might be out of place, but I couldn’t of been more wrong. Scott is a great instructor, very personable and made all students feel comfortable and welcome. Great introduction and background to welding with a great phased in approach to learning to do it. There is plenty of time for each student to physically weld, not just discuss the how to’s. Can’t wait to take other classes as this was quite enjoyable.
