Danita Shaheen

(Modern & Ballet) is a dancer and choreographer who has been influenced by the art world throughout her entire life. Her primary training was with David Otto and the Capital Ballet Company in Albany, NY. She received her BFA in dance from Marymount Manhattan College and graduated with honors. Since then, she has been performing with Laura Ward/ Octavia Cup Dance Theatre, Jacobs Campbell Dance, Tamara Saari Dance Collective, Nina Buisson Contemporary Move, and H.T. Chen and Dancers. Danita has also collaborated with various choreographers throughout New York, as well as creating her own works. Danita is the artistic director of the Alternative Arts Association, which was founded in the winter of 2006. Danita has trained in many different forms of movement as well as the understanding of anatomy, including muscular and skeletal alignment. She brings this training into her class where she stresses proper alignment, sequential movement, momentum, breath, and performance quality. The artistry of dance is only increased by technique and the individuality of each dancer.
